Stephen Cornwell | René Turner Sample | Judy Rodriquez

René Turner Sample is recognized as one of the most experienced and successful female trial lawyers in Central California. She is the only female member of the San Joaquin Valley Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates which selects its members based on jury trial experience, skill, civility and integrity. Born and raised in Fresno, California, René graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Fresno in 1983 and with distinction from San Joaquin College of Law in 1988.

She has lectured for several organizations and is widely recognized as an expert in trial advocacy having taught Civil Trial Advocacy as an adjunct faculty member at San Joaquin College of Law for 10 years and where in 2002 she was voted Teacher of the Year. She has tried over 30 jury trials to verdict and arbitrated more than 100 cases throughout the San Joaquin Valley.

René has tried a variety of cases, but considers her specialty to be personal injury and insurance-based cases. These include premises liability (grocery store slip and fall) resulting in shoulder replacement surgery (plaintiff's verdict $1.2 million upheld on appeal), insurance bad faith for failure to pay severely injured plaintiff the $15,000 policy limits in a timely manner ($900,000), minor car accident resulting in cervical surgery ($100,000), defective residential door resulting in facial scar ($170,000), premises liability against a governmental entity (unmarked and unlit stair) resulting in a fractured arm which didn't heal properly due to medical malpractice ($300,000 for premises liability and $450,000 on the medical malpractice). Prior to dedicating her practice exclusively to representing persons and/or families who have been injured, she spent 12 years on the other side representing the insurance companies where she won over 20 defense trials and she has brought that experience over to the side of helping those who have been injured, always being willing to try every case when it is in the best interest of her client.
